15. city-state

An advanced civilization can revert from a nomadic society to a self-governing city-state, a structural, functional system for life. A city built on solid foundations, tied together by its structure and architecture. New York is a modern day city-state, an isolated, fully evolved microcosm and stronghold of culture and architecture; a “concrete jungle where dreams are made.”

This is the city that showed me architecture; colossal, arrogant, intimidating, grand.
